Our curriculum has been sequenced to encourage increasing cognitive demand from Year 7 onwards. As pupils progress through the curriculum, expectations around understanding and application increases. Pupils acquire knowledge and the foundations of the subject in Year 7, but in expectations of written responses, the depth of understanding increases year on year.
Enrichment Opportunities & Trips
The most effective place to experience true Geography is outside the classroom. Therefore, the Geography Department runs a biennial residential trip to Iceland which will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in class and to improve your fieldwork techniques. In four days, we visit many features of the island in order to build up real life examples in preparation for your examinations. We also make sure there is time to enjoy the geothermal pools the island has to offer!
Fieldwork enquiry is an important component of Geographical study and is now a compulsory examined element of the GCSE and A Level Geography course. Students will therefore be given the opportunity to engage in at least one fieldwork enquiry each year, which will directly relate to the curriculum enquiry units.
