While no two days are ever quite the same in our Early Years rooms, we follow a consistent and balanced routine that’s thoughtfully structured around the children’s needs, offering a familiar rhythm that nurtures both independence and curiosity.

Woven into the week are specialist PE and Forest School sessions. These enriching lessons are led by specialist teachers from our Prep School, offering a familiar and reassuring connection for children as they begin to look ahead to moving into the school.

7:30am - 8.15am
Breakfast and Free Play

Breakfast time is a chance for children to explore independence, as they enjoy choosing and serving their own cereal in a calm, supportive environment

8.15am -10.30am
Registration/Activities/Free Play.

As we come together to begin our day, children are welcomed into a calm and purposeful space where they find their names and take part in our morning registration. This simple routine is rich with opportunities for early maths and literacy, gently woven into playful, meaningful moments. From here, the day unfolds in response to the children’s interests, with learning led by their curiosity and imagination.

10am - 10.30am

Snack Time

Children are warmly invited to join snack time when they feel ready, with time thoughtfully set aside to allow a natural pause in their play. Whether they choose to tidy up or simply take a moment to transition, this part of the day encourages independence and self-awareness in an unhurried, supportive way.

10.30am - 11.45am
Outdoor Play/Walk.

Each day offers plenty of opportunities for movement and exploration, whether it’s through Forest School adventures, energetic PE sessions, or free-flowing play in our outdoor areas. These experiences support physical development, confidence and a deep connection with the world around them.

11.45am -12pm

Music and movement
As we prepare for lunch, we enjoy a short movement and music session that brings everyone together in a joyful way.

12.30pm -3pm
Home time/Sleep time/Free Play/Activities.

After lunch, the afternoon unfolds in a way that reflects each child’s individual needs. Some children head home, others enjoy a restful sleep, while the rest engage in purposeful activities that nurture creativity.

15:00-15:30
Yoga/Mindful Activity/Home time

As the afternoon draws to an end for some, we create a peaceful space for children to relax and recharge. Whether it’s through a simple yoga routine, happy bubble breathing, or snuggling under a blanket with warm milk and a story, this time helps little bodies and minds to unwind in a comforting way.

3.30pm -4pm
Free play.

Children are given the freedom to choose how they spend this part of their day - whether continuing a favourite activity, exploring something new, or simply enjoying quiet time. During this transition, we also support them in washing hands and getting ready for tea.

4pm - 4.30pm
High Tea

We gather for a light tea, bringing a sociable time where children can relax, chat with friends, and enjoy a nourishing snack together.

4.30pm - 6pm

Free Play continues.

In the last part of the day, children enjoy an easy-going space to finish activities, play outdoors, share stories and begin thinking about the day ahead. It’s a time for reflection, connection, and gentle transitions as we prepare for home time.

Throughout the day, our focus remains on nurturing happy, confident learners through joyful experiences, gentle routines, and meaningful connections.

Transition to Reception

A seamless transition to Reception

At AESG, the journey from Nursery and Pre-School into our Reception class is gentle, joyful and thoughtfully supported. Our children see the Reception teacher regularly, building familiarity and trust long before their first day in the classroom.

We come together often for shared learning experiences that spark curiosity and connection - whether it’s enjoying a picnic, heading out on a trip, exploring our Dental Playbox, or playing games outdoors. These moments help children feel part of a wider school community and ease the transition with confidence and excitement.

This approach supports not only the children, but also their families—offering reassurance, continuity, and a sense of belonging every step of the way.
