At AESG our girls are taught by subject specialists for individual sciences from Year 7. In Year 7 and 8 we develop fundamental ideas including particle theory, reactions and acid & alkalis. Learning is carried out in combination with practical experiments to support students’ understanding of concepts as well as to develop their communication skills and practical skills. Lessons are very hands on and students are enthusiastic to participate.

Overview of the GCSE Curriculum

The GCSE course starts in Year 9 so there is adequate time to teach and thoroughly revise each topic. The topics within the GCSE AQA curriculum are diverse and there is something for everyone. Topics include; Rates of reactions and Chemical analysis which allow further development of practical skills, quantitative chemistry which provides the opportunity for students to further their understanding of equations and calculations, and Chemistry of the atmosphere links the current problems of climate change to everyday life. Students practice their examination technique so they are fully prepared for the final examinations in Year 11.

Enrichment Opportunities & Trips

Science Club is run weekly where KS3 students complete fun sessions to continue to build their enthusiasm for the subject as well as carrying out further exciting practicals.

We provide the opportunity for the Year 11 students to attend the GCSE Science Live! Talks in Manchester.
