French, German & Spanish

The MFL department at AESG actively seek to raise the MFL profile by highlighting the importance of language learning in the diverse world that we live in today; celebrating the European Day of Languages, visiting a local tapas restaurant, encouraging our students to teach languages in primary schools in the area, developing partnerships with international schools, attending language days organised by universities and cinema trips.

The MFL department consists of five specialist teachers and three language assistants who share a passion for languages. As MFL teachers our aim is to transfer our personal enthusiasm to our girls by creating an exciting learning environment where pupils’ interest in languages is sparked and encouraged. Our aim at AESG is to develop confident language speakers who are able to use the language in an authentic and meaningful context.

Enrichment Opportunities

The MFL department offers residential trips to Spain, France and Germany in which students have the opportunity to experience culture first-hand. We also regularly organise cinema trips to Home cinema in Manchester where students get the opportunity to meet other language students and learn more about foreign cinema and culture.

The department organises several language trips throughout the year enabling as many students as possible to experience first-hand the language they are learning. For all German A level students, there is the German Exchange and work experience in Tübingen. Our Spanish students can go on an educational trip to Madrid and the French students have the opportunity to visit Paris.
