Mathematics is at the heart of modern life and underpins much of today’s technology. The skills used by businesses, scientists, engineers, designers and software developers begin their development during secondary school Mathematics. This is one reason why Mathematics is a compulsory subject in schools.
Enrichment Opportunities
We are always keen to foster and encourage pupils’ enjoyment of and challenge in the subject. In addition to a small book and CD library we are able to suggest avenues for further explanation of the subject. Set A pupils are given the opportunity to participate in national challenges run by the UK Mathematical Trust and by Liverpool University. Small groups of pupils have also been entered into Team Challenges and we have run visits to Manchester University for events around Women in Mathematics and Taking Maths Further. In some years we have also had the opportunity to work with local companies on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) projects.
