Computer Science & ICT will help you to develop your understanding of current and emerging computing and algorithmic technologies and understand how they work.

We encourage students to consider Computing  & ICT as a future career choice by asking businesses to speak to the students in assemblies alongside topics embedded in the curriculum.

Within the curriculum, students participate in national competitions such as the Bebras Challenge and the Quadcopter Challenge as well as completing their Bronze iDEA Award.

Overview of Year 7, 8 & 9 IT Curriculum

Students in Key Stage 3 are taught a broad and balanced curriculum covering four strands:

  • IT Skills
  • Creativity and Project Work

The curriculum is designed to prepare students for further study at GCSE.  Additionally, we aim to teach students how to use Computing technology in other subjects and their life outside school.

Enrichment Opportunities and Trips

The Computing Department run a variety of extra-curricular clubs such as Minecraft and Robotics. In Robotics Club, we prepare a team of girls to compete in the VEX IQ Competition and First Lego League. Both competitions involve coding and engineering as well as communication and teamwork skills.

In 2022 the department ran a highly successful residential trip to Cambridge and in Autumn 2023 we are running a residential trip to London.  On our trips, students have the opportunity to attend Computing linked museums and workshops, develop their problem solving in an escape room visit, and see the local sights.
