Welcome to Early Years

You can always be assured of an enthusiastic welcome in our Early Years department at Alderley Edge School for Girls, not only from the staff, but also the girls themselves! You will see happy, smiling faces, as they busy themselves finding out about the world around them, investigating and exploring.

Supported by a team of well-qualified staff, the children in our care are able to enjoy a rich and stimulating learning environment both indoors and out, with a very good balance of focused and child-led activities.

We would be delighted to welcome you and your daughter for a visit to see us in action so that you can see for yourselves the wonderful atmosphere and happy learning environment that our Nursery, Pre-School and Reception classes provide.

Reception class is delightful; play is integrated with learning, with an outside area for growing vegetables, a mud kitchen, a shed ‘garden centre’ and ‘farm shop’. Year 1 was hearing about zebra stripes being unique like a fingerprint, when we visited. One older infant class was learning about oceans, another about fractions (by doling out marshmallows).

Meet the Team

Pastoral Care

The happiness and wellbeing of the children in our care is central to all that we do at AESG. We provide a happy, warm and caring environment, where your daughter will blossom and grow.

Reception

Nursery & Pre-School

Our Nursery and Pre-School provide a happy, secure, bright and stimulating environment from where your daughter’s learning journey begins.

The Nursery Room is for our two to three year old children and is a well-equipped, bustling room which is ready to embrace the energy of our blossoming girls. Pre-School is open to girls who are three or four years of age and preparing for transition into Reception. Reception begins at the start of the academic year in which the girls turn five.

Our girls enjoy the wealth of resources available both indoors and outside in our purpose-built covered outdoor play area with garden. The girls are encouraged to play outside in all weathers; we embrace snow, rain, wind and sunshine at AESG!

Both Nursery and Pre-School follow the EYFS and our team of highly qualified staff encourage the girls to have their own ideas and to allow them freedom to think creatively and with imagination. This, in turn, develops the girls’ ability to communicate with others. Whilst the girls are busy in their play, our team are carefully supporting them in achieving and celebrating new skills. We are privileged to be part of a whole school and the girls access the wider environment, actively, by going on nature walks on the school playing field or listening to stories in the school library. Our Pre-School girls also use the School Hall or Junior Gym for their weekly PE sessions.

Forthcoming Open Events:

Working Day Tours – Tuesday 21 November & Thursday 23 November

Sixth Form Taster Day – Friday 24 November
