Leadership and Governance

The School’s Senior Leadership Team comprises eight members of staff:

Mrs H Jeys

Headmistress |

Mrs Jeys grew up in Staffordshire before attending Durham University where she gained a First Class Honours Degree in Theology (with ancient languages). After a further stint at Cambridge University, she started her teaching career at The Manchester Grammar School. She then went onto lead Religion & Philosophy Departments at Malvern Girls’ College, Hulme Grammar School for Boys and Manchester High School for Girls. She enjoyed diverse roles at Manchester High School for Girls; from leading the first cohort of girls through the International Baccalaureate Diploma to being Head of Years 8 – 11 before becoming Deputy Head Mistress (Pastoral) in 2012.

She is passionate about holistic approaches to education and has written many nationally published articles on issues relating to girls’ schools and education. She is also an author of Philosophy textbooks for sixth form students. She has led external training sessions on data in schools and has spoken on the radio about various pastoral ventures including mindfulness and wellbeing. Mrs Jeys enjoys her responsibilities on the Education Committee for the Girls’ School Association and as a school inspector. She joined Alderley Edge School for Girls as Headmistress in September 2016.

Mr S Malkin

Bursar |

Mr Malkin grew up in Stockport and attended the local grammar school. Following completion of an Honours Degree in Biochemistry at Southampton University, he entered the world of applied research at a leading pharmaceutical company. However, following a career change into accountancy, Mr Malkin gained further professional accountancy and company secretarial qualifications. Mr Malkin spent time working for a leading accountancy firm before taking on his first school role in the bursarial field. He has now worked for over twenty years in a variety of educational establishments before joining Alderley Edge School for Girls, in June 2016, as the Bursar.

Ms B Howard

Junior School Headmistress |

Ms Howard started her career at St Albans High School. She then worked in Sydney, Australia before returning to the UK in 1993. She went on to work at Manchester High School for Girls before moving to Bolton School Girls’ Division.

In 2010, Ms Howard joined AESG as Deputy Head of the Junior School and took over the headship of the Junior School in April 2013.

Mrs C Wood

Senior School Deputy Headmistress |

Mrs Wood completed her Geography degree at the University of Leicester. Having relocated back home to Cheshire, she joined AESG in 2005 and was appointed to the position of Deputy Headmistress in January 2011. She is also a key member of the Geography Department and specialises in Physical Geography at A level, which is her passion.

Mrs Wood supports the Headmistress in the day to day running of the school and her main areas of responsibility include being the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and managing the Senior School Pastoral Team.

Mrs C Millar

Director of Studies |

Mrs Millar graduated with a degree from Nottingham University in History having studied areas as diverse as Women’s History, Late Medieval Italian History and Tsarist Russia. Following a PGCE at MMU, she first moved to Cambridgeshire and became the Head of History at The King’s School, Peterborough. She then took up the position as Head of Humanities at Cartmel High School. A change of focus from the academic to a pastoral side of school life led Catherine to become the Assistant Head of Sixth Form at Manchester High School for Girls before becoming the Head of Sixth Form at AESG. Catherine took on the role of Head of Careers before becoming the School’s Director of Studies in 2016.

Mr J Russell

Head of Sixth Form |

Originally from Sale, Mr Russell studied Politics and History at the University of the West of England. After some time working in banking, he completed a Master’s Degree in Comparative Politics and History and a PGCE in History. He has taught History since 2003 and joined Alderley Edge School for Girls from Stockport Grammar School. Mr Russell is our Head of Sixth Form.

Mrs C Gordon

Junior School Deputy Headmistress |

Mrs Gordon developed a love of teaching at an early age through coaching gymnastics. She started her teaching career in Cheshire where she worked at both Forest School and Forest Park School. In 2011 she joined AESG where she has worked as a class teacher across the Infants and Juniors. In 2013, she became Director of Studies and was then promoted to Deputy Head of the Junior School in September 2015.

Mrs D Dawson

Director of Development |

After growing up in Lancashire, Mrs Dawson gained an Honours Degree in International Business with German at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Following a move to Cheshire, she completed a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Professional Diploma in Marketing whilst working full time at a Multinational Business to Business Marketing Network.

In 2010, she joined Alderley Edge School for Girls as Marketing Officer with responsibility for all marketing communications and joined the Senior Leadership Team in January following her appointment as Director of Development. In her new role she is responsible for building links with alumnae and the local community, developing public benefit initiatives and the School’s annual Bursary Ball.

Alderley Edge School for Girls has a pro-active team of fourteen Governors, many of whom have a history with our founding schools. Our Governors work closely with the Headmistress and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that pupils receive the best education.
