Music
Music is a wonderful subject that inspires all people in one way or another. Sound is all around us and we hear it in many different ways. It is an emotive subject and is fascinating to discover why it makes us feel sad or happy. Have you ever wondered why you like it or why you do not like it? Learning to analyse and develop aural awareness will give you a real insight into other cultures, historical context, and musical emotions. Music enables our girls to learn more about how current styles have developed and achieve a better aural discipline which can improve their learning in all aspects of life.
Our girls have achieved excellent examination results at both GCSE and A level
100% of girls achieved A* - A for GCSE in music
100% of girls achieved A grade for AS
100% of girls achieved A/B grade for A2
Many girls also complete ABRSM music examinations in performance and theory each year. Regular concerts are given both in school and out of school and both religions and secular music is performed.
Some students have chosen to continue their study of Music at University, and Musicians often go on to very successful careers in the arts, media, caring and education.
We offer the Edexcel specification which covers a core context of prescribed instrumental and vocal texts for analysis and investigation. These topics are also used to inform students of the variety of styles used for their composition, Techniques and Performance sections of study.
