Mathematics
Mathematics is a beautiful subject that both enhances and quantifies the world around us.
It can be a tool used in all walks of life and is a fundamental skill needed to succeed in the workplace. More than that, Mathematics has a wonder and elegance all of its own. So much that we consider beautiful has some kind of pattern, symmetry or flow to it – all of which can be described mathematically.
Maths is studied using variety of approaches, including investigations, group work and some active Maths. We show how Maths can be applied to real applications and encourage students to use and develop their mathematical ideas in other subject areas.
Maths is a popular subject at A Level, with approximately two thirds of top set students opting for Maths as part of their A Level studies. Our girls have achieved excellent A Level results in recent years, including over 50% A*-A in A Level Mathematics, and 88% achieving A*-B. In the last 5 years, we have students who have chosen to study Mathematical subjects at the countries top universities.
We offer both OCR Mathematics and OCR Further Mathematics within the department. We can offer a department full of ability and experience in teaching GCE A Levels in the subject. The A Level in Mathematics has always been valued highly by universities and employers alike.
A Level Mathematics contains Calculus, Sequences, Series, Surds, Co-ordinate Geometry, Logarithms, Vectors, Statistical Methods and Mechanics.
A Level Further Mathematics contains much more calculus and delves into exciting areas such as Polar Co-ordinates, Differential Equations, Reduction Formulae, further Statistical Methods, Mechanical Methods and more.
