Religious Studies
Religious Studies examines the fundamental questions about our purpose in life, our relationship with others, how we can influence events, and our concept of God. We are living in a world of different belief systems and values and RS looks at how we face the challenges of society in the 21st Century. In RS, we learn about religion and from religion; we question and explore whilst supporting those who have faith; we allow everyone to walk their own spiritual journey.
In Year 7, the girls start learning about Judeo-Christianity. We question our origins and what we can learn from the Fathers of Judaism. We consider our values and our responsibilities. In Christianity, we study the person of Jesus as the Messiah, a leader, a rebel and the Son of God.
Year 8 builds upon the foundations taught in Year 7. We begin with Judaism, learning about beliefs, practices and festivals. We move into Christianity and finish the year by studying Hinduism. There is much to see, hear, smell, touch, taste and learn in these lessons.
Year 9 starts with Islam. We study the core beliefs and practices of Muslims. We then look at Sikhism and Buddhism. The final term explores contemporary issues such as racism and sexism. We delve into the Problem of Evil by examining the events of the Holocaust. It is a far reaching and absorbing year.
