Learn German and get to know one of the great European cultures!

German is just one of the Modern Languages on offer at AESG. It is a fascinating language to learn, not least because we discover just how much our two languages have in common.  Not only do girls become competent in speaking and using the language but they also learn much about the culture and customs of the German speaking world. There are often opportunities to go on exciting trips, such as to the German Christmas markets in Freiburg.

Learning German is more than mere language learning - it opens up a world of literature, art and music. It is a leading language of science and philosophy and is the second most common language on the Internet. German can be combined with most other subjects at university with the opportunity to spend a year abroad.  You will be in high demand amongst employers if you study German or indeed any other language as ability in a language is comparatively rare and highly prized.

We study IGCSE German and the girls are examined in all four language skills; listening, reading, speaking and writing. We look at many topics such as health and fitness, the environment and future career plans as well as learning to cope in a variety of situations which might occur whilst visiting the country. Girls are encouraged to broaden their knowledge of the language and German culture and customs through accessing a variety of resources available at school and on the Internet.
